Nuno Santos on Staying Motivated: ‘Starter? They Beat It Every Day, Sometimes I Get Tired’

Nuno Santos, Sporting player, in the flash interview with Sport TV 5, after the 2-0 victory against Sturm Graz, in the third round of the Champions League:

«[Foi titular e fez um golo. Não podia pedir mais?] I always want to be the owner. Being a starter is my job. If you look at the games I played at Sporting, I’m close to 200 and more than half are starters. It’s something I’m saying because they beat this every day. They know that I’m a player who always wants to play, I’m ambitious, I’ve been through a lot in life, that’s why. Sometimes I get a little tired of people talking about this, because I’m a football player and a player who doesn’t want to play as a starter can’t be a player. I always want to be a starter on this team, I respect my teammates and I will always fight to be a starter.

It was a positive game, we won 2-0 on a difficult pitch. Seven points and Saturday we have more for the championship.”

«[Em três jogos, o Sporting não perdeu e está a lutar pelo apuramento. Esperavam tanto nesta fase?] We expected it, because we really believe in our talent and our quality. We have a fantastic group, five years with the manager, five years of enormous dedication and we are having another excellent season. Now look at Famalicão, it will be a very difficult game.”

«[É o melhor Sporting que conheceu?] I’ve always had different groups here at Sporting, this year it’s another competitive group, full of talent and young. We are here to call the shots. There is a long way to go until the end of the season.”
