Bailey Zappe is moving from the champion Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad to Cleveland and strengthening the Browns as a new backup playmaker: The 25-year-old could play as a replacement for Jameis Winston against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Zappe was a fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots NFL Draft 2022. In eight starts for New England, he completed 63.2% of his passes for 2,053 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Pats cut him from the roster in August.
The quarterback situation in Cleveland is further complicated by an injury to Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson, who came into the game against the Cincinnati Bengals after Watson’s injury, injured a finger on his throwing hand. ESPNHowever, reporter Jeremy Fowler now reports: The injury is not so severe that an operation is necessary.
