Increasing safety, real and perceived by citizens, this is the primary aim of the activity carried out by the Carabinieri of the Piazza Dante Company who, last night, during a control and surveillance service on the streets of the historic center, reported a neo of age for “illegally carrying weapons or objects capable of offending”.
Thanks to the widespread presence in the area, combined with a profound knowledge of the social and criminal fabric of the place, the soldiers of the Carabinieri spotted two very young boys who, aboard a Fiat 500, were wandering around the streets surrounding the port of Catania, stopping every now and then near groups of other kids at whom, from the windows, they “hurled” insults and then sped away in the small car.
This provocative and uncivilized attitude could not go unnoticed in the eyes of the crew who, therefore, decided to stop the two for a check.
When the vehicle arrived in via Villascabrosa, the Carabinieri called a halt and proceeded to identify the two occupants, as well as checking the vehicle’s documents. During these operations, the passenger, an 18-year-old from Catania residing in the San Giorgio district, began to appear increasingly restless and nervous, making the military suspect that he was hiding something. At that point, the investigators decided to search both the two young people and the car. Inside the armrest storage compartment they found a metal knuckle duster almost 10cm long. Furthermore, a 65 cm long wooden stick was found in the trunk, hidden under some shopping bags. Both objects, the brass knuckles and the cane, were immediately seized.
At that point the 18-year-old told the patrol that the car was owned by his grandmother, but only he used it, and he also admitted that he had personally hidden those dangerous objects in the vehicle, without the knowledge of his friend, who told him he was only taking him for a ride and, for this reason, he was reported to the Judicial Authority.
