Breel Embolo holds his first goal of the season. The international was decisive in the Champions League during Monaco‘s 5-1 success against Red Star Belgrade. Noah Okafor sent an assist during AC Milan’s 3-1 victory against Bruges.
Silent in his first 12 appearances of the season – 8 for club, 4 for the Swiss team – Breel Embolo saw the light at the end of stoppage time in the 1st half. The Basel player deceived the opposing goalkeeper with a precise shot with his right foot at the end of a breaking action for the 2-1 Monegasque (49th).
He even thought about scoring a double in the 56th minute. His acrobatic success – but lucky – was however canceled after consultation with the VAR for a handball from Basel.
The ASM, whose Geneva captain Denis Zakaria once again shone with his mid-field slaughter, had however already made the break thanks to a missile from Wilfried Singo (54th, 3-1). The 4-1 fell in the 70th, Takumi Minamino scoring twice on an assist from Embolo, making it 5-1 in the 97th. Monaco has 7 points after three days.
Okafor decisive passer
Another Swiss striker stood out: the “joker” Noah Okafor, author of an assist on the winning goal for AC Milan against Cercle Bruges of Ardon Jashari (3-1). The Basel player managed a perfect back cross for Tijani Reijnders after an overflow on the left side at 2-1 (61st), barely twenty seconds after coming into play.
The Dutchman sealed the score in the 71st minute, allowing AC Milan to pick up their first points in this Champions League against a team who had found a way to equalize at 1-1 by playing 10 against 11 from the 40th.
