TOR – TBL 5:2

Nylander and Stolarz led Toronto to a win over Tampa Bay

William Nylander confirmed his usual streak against Tampa, registering two goals and an assist to lead Toronto to a 5-2 victory. Auston Matthews scored for the third straight game and tied Alex Ovechkin‘s record for goals scored before his 28th birthday. Both of them scored 371, but the American played 33 games less. Only nine players scored more goals, the record is held by Wayne Gretzky with 616. Max Pacioretty (he was a healthy substitute in the previous two duels) and Matthew Knies also scored, Mitch Marner assisted twice.

Anthony Stolarz made 32 saves and became the first star of the game. Andrej Vasilevskij had a worse night, who was replaced after conceding the fourth goal out of 14 shots. Jonas Johansson subsequently covered 14 shots out of 15.

“It was just one of those nights… I think I could count on one hand the number of times I’ve pulled him out of the gate in my entire career. JJ hasn’t had a catch yet this season and I felt like it was the right time for him to step up in goal and give our unit a breather.” noted Lightning coach Jon Cooper.

Slovak defender Erik Černák he played 18 and a half minutes with one minus point. He also presented himself with one point and blocked one shot. He got into a scuffle with Simon Benoit after timeout.
