Elena Congost wants to do everything to recover her dues. The Spanish para-marathoner, deprived of the bronze medal at the Paris Paralympic Games for wanting to help her guide a few meters from the finish, will take legal action to try to regain her place on the podium and her charm.
On September 8, Elena Congost concluded the marathon in category T8 in 3rd place but she was disqualified for having let go of her link with her guide Mia Crol a few meters from the finish. The Spaniard then tried to prevent him from falling as he was about to become unwell.
The IOC “incompetent” on this issue
Following his disqualification, the athlete requested help from the organizers, the International Olympic and Paralympic Committee but also the Ministry of Sports to recover his medal. “The IOC sent him a purely formal response, considering itself incompetent to know about this file. The other organizations did not even deign to respond to him,” his lawyers explained in a press release.
The Spaniard will therefore try to take justice into her own hands “before a territorially and materially competent judge”. Legal action is “prepared”.
