On Wednesday, the main hearing begins in the dispute between Zlatan’s property company and the tenant, where both parties are fighting for the right to the apartment in Östermalm.
Probably Zlatan himself will avoid appearing at the hearing.
– His wife Helena Seger, who has also stepped in as owner, will be present and heard, says lawyer Johanna Björkman.
The tenant had lived in the apartment in Östermalm for several years before he was dismissed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s property company. The landlord does not want to move and has a contract to sue the football star’s company.
– It is about an old story. Zlatan has bought a house in Östermalm with an apartment that has been sublet through a brokerage company. When Zlatan takes possession of this property, he wants this apartment, so he terminates the agreement with the brokerage company that has the first-hand contract, says lawyer Johanna Björkman.
The question to be tried is whether the tenant has the right to stay with a first-hand contract or not.
– A judgment in the Supreme Court a few years ago examined the question of the rights of a second-hand tenant when you have this arrangement, says Björkman.
Zlatan is expected to send his wife
Zlatan bought the property in Östermalm for 130 million in 2022. The reason why the landlord was terminated last year was that the property would be renovated and that the landlord would use the apartment himself.
In the media, Zlatan has been silent about the dispute. When the hearing starts at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Stockholm district court, Zlatan is not believed to appear.
– He should actually have been heard under the declaration of truth. But it is unclear whether it remains. At the moment, the information that I have seen is that his wife Helena Seger, who has also stepped in as owner, will be there and be heard, says Johanna Björkman.
During the negotiation, new details may emerge that determine how the outcome will be.
– This is a dispute so we don’t know everything. This is a matter of evidence between the parties who have different views on the matter. The parties may also agree, if they find a solution that is better than pursuing this judicial review.
Olof Lundh: “A lot of attention”
Outside of his football career, Zlatan is a successful businessman who has worked with energy drink companies, gaming companies, clothing companies and padel halls, among other things.
– He has liked this thing about doing business too, perhaps says Olof Lundh, editor-in-chief of Fotbollskanalen.
According to Lundh, there may be several reasons why Zlatan is avoiding the negotiations in the district court.
– Partly, he is a partner in an American company that owns the football club Milan, and they are busy, they played in the Champions League last night. Then it can also be the case that it is difficult to get to court, there is a lot of attention. Everything becomes very big when it comes to Zlatan.
