This Thursday (24), at the Neo Química Arena, Corinthians and Racing open the semi-final clash of the Copa Sudamericana. An idol of the Argentine team as a player and coach, Diego Simeone, now coach of Atlético de Madrid, planned the clash and praised Memphis Depay, the black and white team’s striker.
“It’s going to be a difficult match. Memphis hanging around us (laughs). He will certainly cause complex things because he is a great player. The rival (Corinthians) has a great teambut I see the coach (Gustavo Costas, Racing coach) very excited, I see the team being courageous”, said Simeone to ESPN Argentina.
Simeone built a successful career as a player in Argentine and European football, having ended his career at Racing. At the Avellaneda club, the Argentine also began his successful career as a coach.
Memphis Depay was managed by Diego Simeone during his time at Atlético de Madrid, which lasted a season and a half, between 2023 and 2024. In total, in a period of many injuries, the Dutchman scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 40 games played .
