The continuation of the bad weather forced Milano 1946, organizer of the tournament, to reduce the calendar of the III Memorial Robert Fontana Under 23. The heavy rains that fell in recent weeks made the diamonds of several of the 13 teams registered impracticable, especially those of the Emilian group 3 of which <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/commemorative-postcard-viii-european-baseball-championship-1964-san-marino-eur-100/” title=”COMMEMORATIVE POSTCARD VIII European Baseball Championship 1964 San Marino – EUR 1,00″>Piacenza was part together with Crocetta, Parma, Collecchio and Poviglio. The situation in groups 1 and 2, located in Lombardy and Piedmont, is less problematic. Furthermore, the most penalized team was Piacenza, who ended up complaining of five recoveries which honestly would have been impossible to reschedule by October, the last plausible month for an expressly spring-summer discipline like baseball.
Hence the painful decision of the Fontana organizing committee which canceled the recoveries, assigning a Solomonic draw for the ranking. Piacenza, despite itself, could not help but accept the decision with common sense and sportsmanship. The red and whites are left with the satisfaction of the victory obtained against Crocetta in the only match played. In light of the situation that has arisen, the semi-finalists will therefore be Milan, Crocetta, Codogno and Seveso who in the next weekend, weather permitting, will compete for the Memorial which in the first two editions went in order to Piacenza (2022) and Codogno (2023).
