We want the best for archery in our country

The World Archery Mexico is a recently created Federation that has the endorsement and support of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), however, it does not yet have the approval of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM), nor of the of the Mexican Sports Confederation (CODEME), despite this, president Gabriel Ramos Rodríguez, assures that this project wants the best for archery in our country, which is why he made it clear that the doors are open to anyone who wants join in and make the sport continue to grow.

“We are not here to divide in any sense. The doors are open to everyone who wants to join archery. We have vice presidents of the previous federation working with us, presidents of the associations working with us, because we are building bridges and making it clear that this project wants the good for archery. Everyone will have their doors open and our vision is that the better we work, the more our sport will grow,” he said in an exclusive interview for El Heraldo de Puebla.

In that sense, Gabriel Ramos, pointed out that he will continue looking for the opportunity to sit down and talk with María José Alcalá, president of the COM, to listen to her work plan, the athletes, coaches and all those who make up World Archery Mexico and so on. join the nation project and make it clear that they are not a Federation “created by steam.”

“We will continue looking for a space for her (Mary José Alcalá) to know our work plan, to listen to the athletes, to see how they are integrated, to listen to the coaches and to join her and this project that is a national project. . We are Mexico. We have to win, the (Mexican) Olympic Committee, CONADE, Federation, states and athletes.”

On the other hand, he already had an unofficial meeting with Rommel Pacheco, current director of CONADE, to show him broadly what archery represents and means worldwide. He classified his arrival at CONADE as positive and trusts that, thanks to his discipline, strength, commitment and youth, in addition to teamwork, the results will come quickly.

Currently, World Archery has 12 affiliated associations in accordance with the law, including Chihuahua, Sonora, Baja California, the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which recently joined during the Assembly Ordinary event that took place in Tlaxcala last week, within the framework of the Archery World Cup Final, where in addition, the “Archery Week” was held, an event in which it was explained to the coaches technical and logistical issues with international experts in the field.

“We are adding on many fronts. The basis of sport, the future is training, trained coaches to expand the base. We did that and turned the World Cup Final into Archery Week. Since Tuesday (last week), 120 coaches of different levels from 24 states of the Republic arrived. These coaches were given technical and logistical training.”

Gabriel Ramos understands that the future cannot be without the past, that is why he extended the invitation to all the Olympic medalists in the history of Mexican archery such as Luis “El Abuelo” Álvarez, Ana Paula Vázquez and Mariana Avitia, to who were present at the opening of the Tlaxcala 2024 World Cup regardless of whether they were not competing in the event, the only one who could not be present was Aída Román due to personal agenda issues.

Finally, he noted that Mexico will continue to host international archery events, such as the Pan American Indoor Championship in San Luis Potosí. In the absence of an official announcement, Guadalajara could host the 2026 Pan American Championship of the specialty, a competition in which would give places for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games and in July of next year, a para archery event with the idea of including this discipline in the CONADE Paranational Games. The vision of World Archery is to have at least one international archery event per year in our country.
