Nuoro, fight with bats between two neighbors: one in intensive care

Nuraghe neighbourhood: first the argument between the people across the street, then the beatings, finally the ambulance ride to the emergency room of San Francesco in Nuoro and the hospitalization in intensive care in critical conditions.

The fight in via Togliatti between two neighbors, which ended in blows with a bat, risks turning into a tragedy. Both were injured. The one who fared the worst was Gianni Fancello, 56 years old, who was hospitalized with a bad head injury and in critical condition in the intensive care unit of the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro.

The other contender, Giampaolo Porcu, 46, was also hospitalized with a head injury due to the beating. The baseball bat, used by both of them, was later found broken at the scene of the argument. Police officers intervened on site and were carrying out investigations in the building which was the scene of the furious argument until late in the evening.

The aggression

The fight happened yesterday in the early afternoon, around 2.30pm in a municipal building in via Togliatti in the Nuraghe district, on the outskirts of the city. A building known in Nuoro as the palace of the displaced. Where in the past there have also been several attacks between tenants and complaints of illegal occupation. Two opposite sides faced each other, the 56 year old Fancello and Giampaolo Porcu, 46 years old, both from Nuoro, who evidently had old frictions. Little else is known about the reason for the argument, no details have been leaked, even if the other condominium owners said that the two were still seeing each other and were often seen together. According to an initial reconstruction currently being investigated, it may have been Fancello who attacked Porcu as soon as he returned home from work. A blow to the back of the head with the bat, very violent. But that would not have immediately knocked out Porcu, who evidently managed to react and snatch the bat from his attacker and in turn hit Fancello. The scuffle and screams attracted the other residents who immediately notified the emergency services.

The investigations

When the police arrived, the officers struggled to restore peace in the building, so much so that two ambulances had to be called in for the injured. One of the two contenders, Fancello was particularly agitated and showed difficulty, so much so that the doctors also had to give him some tranquilizers to treat him, load him into an ambulance and take him to the emergency room under the escort of some police patrols. Porcu, injured, also had to seek treatment from emergency room doctors. Both suffered serious head injuries from the blows they received. Fancello, once he arrived at the emergency room conscious, was then transferred to intensive care where he is hospitalized in critical conditions. As evidence of the violence of the blows, the baseball bat found broken in two. The officers are interviewing witnesses, meanwhile reports have been filed.
