Cabestany: the COC judo is committed to Pink October

The Germanor judo club opened its doors for a self-defense jujitsu session like no other.

This 5th edition of their awareness initiative had a specific objective: to support the fight against breast cancer as part of Pink October. A strong gesture from the club which has managed to combine martial art and solidarity in a friendly atmosphere: “It’s a cause that is close to our hearts and to which we want to contribute in our own way”declared Ludovic Cabaribère president of the COC judo.

The afternoon was devoted mainly to women and young girls but open to all, attracted a varied audience, mainly made up of seniors. On the tatami, participants discovered simple but effective actions to defend themselves in the event of attack. The president clarified the philosophy of self-defense: “If we are attacked in the street, the objective is to be able to escape. We are not there to fight, but to defend ourselves”.

The message is clear: in the event of aggression, it is not a question of seeking confrontation. “We try to give keys to the participants. The idea is to respond to an attack in such a way as to destabilize the aggressor and then escape quickly. The method taught does not seek to train fighters but to offer tools accessible to everyone, whatever their level”.

On the tatami, Professor Jean Barcelo, 6th dan, emphasizes the simplicity and effectiveness of gestures. “Far from being a simple defense technique, self-defense also helps to strengthen self-confidence”. The club offers this session every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for participants of all ages from 14 years old. Sessions are open to all “It is a useful physical activity that is enjoyable to do.”

If this session was dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, the president has already announced that the club will continue its commitment to other causes. “In November, we are going to raise awareness among our judokas about male cancers by organizing the election for the most beautiful mustache in the club”. For him, the club is a showcase and must take advantage of its visibility to support just causes. “We must no longer be Panurge’s sheep. We must say to ourselves: let’s not be afraid”.

A message of hope and strength that resonates both in martial arts gyms and in the fight against cancer.
