■Comments from Japan Men’s National Team Head Coach Tom Horvath
“Over the past three years, we have grown as a team and made many great memories. Unfortunately we were not able to reach our goal in Paris, but we received the respect of all the teams we played against. We are on the right path and I am honored and proud to be part of this team moving forward. Our work and journey is not over. I look forward to many challenges ahead. I look forward to taking on the challenge.”
■Comment from Yuko Miya, President of the Japan Basketball Association
“Joy at the World Cup 2023 Okinawa, which led us to the Olympic Games on our own for the first time in 48 years, and chasing down the host country France who won the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
They showed the world the potential of Japanese basketball.
Since Horvath was appointed as head coach in September 2021, he has raised the world rankings from 35th to 21st, and the Japanese national basketball style and culture that he has instilled.
I believe that continuing this will lead Japan Basketball to the next stage.”
