(25.10.2024) Under the patronage of Minister of State Stolz and Mayor Mike Joseph, TSG Nordwest 1898 Frankfurt am Main eV is organizing the “International Adler Cup”, the largest children’s judo tournament in the world, for the eighth time. On October 26th and 27th, up to 2,000 competing children and young people aged 9-20 will show their skills on 8 competition mats in the athletics hall of the Kalbach sports and leisure center in Frankfurt and under the watchful eyes of 80 judges on each competition day.

Over 40 nations are taking part, including participants and judges from all over Europe, but also Kyrgyzstan, the USA, Brazil, North Africa and even Ethiopia.

The U13 starts at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, and exciting competitions are expected for the U17 at around 3:00 p.m. Due to the large number of participants and spectators, the tournament takes place in the spacious Kalbach sports and leisure center. “We are pleased that the Eagle Cup is receiving such a great international response and that children are traveling thousands of kilometers with their parents to fight here in Frankfurt,” says initiator and tournament director Fabian Keller from TSG Nordwest. “The key is the TSG parent helpers, who help here day and night for three days and plan and prepare all year round,” adds the judo department head of TSG 1898 Djelloul Djeriou. In fact, the entire event is initiated and organized on a voluntary basis – and has been since 2015.

Nicholas Gill, national coach from Canada, who sends strong teams to the Adler Cup every year, says: “At no other Pan American tournament are our cadets and juniors as challenged as is the case at the Adler Cup – and in contrast to the official world association tournaments “We bring all age groups to one place and have top encounters for the U14, U17, U18 and U21.”

Judo is a sport that particularly promotes self-confidence, discipline, a sense of fairness, respect and regard for one another, especially in children. The Adler Cup is held in an integrative manner.
