During the break of the match Euroleague between the Real Madrid and Estrella Roja, the beneficiaries of the Valdebernardo Adapted Basketball School had the opportunity to demonstrate their passion for basketball in a special exhibition at the WiZink Center.
This event was organized within the framework of One Teamthe Euroleague Corporate Social Responsibility program supported by Turkish Airlines, which uses basketball to generate social impact in communities. Each participating club in the Euroleague and Eurocup collaborates through this program with a common objective: responding to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 10, which seeks to reduce inequalities.
Real Madrid Basketball, in collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation, carries out this social project through its 15 adapted schools, which bring basketball and its values closer to people with disabilities throughout the Community of Madrid. These programs not only facilitate access to sport, but also reinforce personal skills such as teamwork, motivation and self-improvement. Yesterday’s exhibition gave the public the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the efforts of these athletes, who enjoyed a special moment of prominence at half-time of the game.
Since its creation in 2012, One Team has directly and indirectly benefited more than 26,000 people. In total, 79 Euroleague and Eurocup clubs, and 370 ambassadors, have participated in initiatives that include meetings with One Team ambassadors, visits by youth players to adapted schools and other activities that enrich the experience of the beneficiaries.
Commitment to vulnerable groups
During the last season, 230 students from the adapted schools of the Real Madrid Foundation They participated in displays like this during breaks in first-team matches, reflecting the extent and importance of this collaboration. Thanks to the continued involvement of Real Madrid and the Real Madrid Foundation, initiatives such as last night’s exhibition help to make inclusive sport visible and promote a more fair and equal society. The enthusiasm of the public and the energy of the WiZink Center confirmed the positive impact of this collaboration on the Madrid community, as well as Real Madrid’s commitment to the values of inclusion and support for vulnerable groups.
