Hervé Renard back at the head of the Saudi Arabian team?

Two months after his departure from the French women’s team, the 56-year-old coach would be close to returning to service with a nation he knows by heart.

Hervé Renard could soon find himself at the head of a selection, two months after leaving the Blue following the elimination in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Games against Brazil. Courted by several countries, the 56-year-old technician would be close to returning to Saudi Arabia, the nation he coached between 2019 and 2023. As a reminder, he led them in the group stage during the last World Cup in Qatar in 2022 where the Saudis obtained a prestigious victory against Argentina (2-1) who finished as world champion.

The coach, winner of the CAN in 2012 and 2015, has maintained a very good reputation in the Gulf country and could shortly replace Roberto Mancini, dismissed this Thursday by the Saudi federation. The winner of Euro 2020 with Italy was in a bad position after criticizing the local championship which he believes lacks quality players. The results with the Saudi Arabia selection were also far from satisfactory, with Mancini having taken only five points after four days in the Asian World Cup qualifiers.
