Top seed Alexander Zverev will bow out in the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Friday evening.
The German had to admit defeat to the Italian Lorenzo Musetti after a high-class game 6:2, 6:7 (5), 4:6.
The 22-year-old takes a 2-1 lead in the head-to-head against the 2021 Vienna winners.
Things are looking good for Zverev for a long time. In the tiebreak, the German was already leading 4:3, but then fell behind.
In the third set, Zverev quickly fell 3-0 behind with a double break. He can still make up for a loss of serve, but in the end Musetti still brings the narrow lead to the finish.
Musetti will now face seventh-seeded Briton Jack Draper on Saturday in the fight for a place in the final.
