Julianne Paquette: a passionate referee
Julianne Paquette, who is in her seventh season of baseball, was named among three finalists at the regional level in the umpire category. A well-deserved recognition for this young Agathoise, who discovered refereeing two years ago. “I’m really happy to learn that I was selected, because for me, baseball is like a part of me. I grew up there, then I live there. So I was really happy,” she confides.
“When I was young, I often saw referees, then I always told myself that one day, it could be me. When I played, sometimes I found it really boring because there were ” games » canceled because there was a lack of referees. Also, it tempted me to evolve in a sport that I knew,” she remembers.
She also talks about the challenges linked to the impartiality required by her role: “On the personal side, sometimes I had to referee my sister, referee my cousin, referee my former teammates. It sure hurt more to take them off. But professionally, I had no choice, I must be impartial. I really have to stay professional in the game,” she adds.
Julianne sees a bright future in refereeing and hopes to continue to climb the ranks. She also had the chance to referee this year during the Women’s Provincial Championships, an experience that she describes as memorable.
Raphaëlle Prud’homme: player and scorer of the year
Raphaëlle Prud’homme, Julianne’s cousin, also distinguished herself during the Gala by winning two prestigious awards: rookie scorer of the year and player of the year in the 13UBF category. A member of the Prédatrice de Sainte-Agathe team, Raphaëlle has been playing baseball since the age of 4, a journey marked by years of hard work and passion.
“It makes me proud, because I’ve been playing for several years. I had already been player of the year when I was younger, but I had been hoping to get it for a long time. I finally got it this year. “, she declares.
However, it was her title as a rookie scorer that gave her particular pride. “What makes me even more proud is that I really score, because it’s my first year. I was 11 for most of the summer. I really like it because it’s a great gang,” confides Raphaëlle Prud’homme.
For this young Agate resident, baseball is not just a sport, but a great team where she feels fully involved. “I really like it because it’s a really nice gang. I like knowing everyone. It’s really great relationships,” explains Raphaëlle Prud’homme.
