Gambling giant Entain has set a new record for sports betting on NFL games. On Entain’s betting platforms Ladbrokes and Coral, punters in Great Britain and Ireland have placed around 65% more tips on NFL games compared to last year.
The increase in sports bets placed was primarily recorded for the weekly NFL league games. In addition, an above-average number of football bets were placed in Great Britain and Ireland on three games during the London week.
Regular NFL season games have been played in England during London Week since 2007. The venue is London’s Wembley Stadium. Since 2019, games have also been taking place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the first pure football stadium in Europe.
Also the London week in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and at Wembley Stadium was a complete success for Entain. Compared to last year, Brits placed around 51% more sports bets on games such as New York Jets vs. Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears vs. Jacksonville Jaguars.
In addition to the increased number of football bets, Entain also reported a 46% year-on-year increase in stakes placed in the UK and Ireland.
Greg Ferris, managing director of sport at Entain, sees this development very positively and explained:
Over the last twenty years, the NFL has become truly international, with games taking place all over the world, helping to build a global fan base.
In the UK and Ireland, fans are betting more not only on the games in London, but also on many prime-time games taking place in the USA.
In the USA, bookmakers also expected a new sports betting record in the NFL before the current 2024/2025 season.
Player bets and team-specific NFL bets are particularly popular
Entain can look back on positive development year-on-year. At the same time, people are pleased about new record numbers for sports betting on NFL games in Great Britain and Ireland. During the London Week, however, not only winning bets were placed, but also increased player bets and item-specific sports bets.
One of the most popular player-related tips was the touchdown scorers. A bet is considered won if the player scores at least one touchdown in the entire regular playing time.
Furthermore, numerous NFL bets were placed on the total number of points a player scored in the entire match. For this purpose, various top and bottom lines are available from the bookmakers.
It could well be that betting on the NFL will become more popular in the UK and Ireland over the next few years. Gambling providers like Entain should then be able to record further record sales from NFL sports betting.
