THE SPORT SCAN – The Canadian immediately apologized after a very poorly negotiated return.
Being a referee on the professional circuit means exposing yourself to certain risks, such as getting hit by a bullet when you are stuck in your chair. In Basel, this mishap occurred on Friday to Mohamed Lahyani who officiated during the meeting between the French Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and the Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
The latter was unable to return correctly after a powerful serve from his opponent and his ball went straight into the head of the referee who fortunately was not injured at the time. The native of Tel Aviv immediately apologized by shaking the hand of his very unintentional victim.
The Frenchman won in three sets (7-6, 6–3, 7–6) and will play his semi-final against Holger Rune from 5:00 p.m. in Switzerland. The other match will pit Ben Shelton against Arthur Fils (3:00 p.m.).
