The Bavarians were victorious against the Basques in the men’s event of the hay bet organized by the Almitza association at the Jauregi restaurant in Hernani. Harvesters from Germany harvested 3,201kg and Basque harvesters, 3,137kg. Amaiur Arrospide, from Lea, and Josu Mendizabal, from Zalvibia, competed against Johannes Egger and Johann Wolfgruber, from Bavaria.
In the women’s race, Izadi Arrospide from Lea was the winner (5:48.26). Maide Garmendia from Zalvibia was second (6:12.50) and Veronika Abfalter from Bavaria was third (7:02.56).
Championship of the Basque Country
The Iradier Arena in Vitoria-Gasteiz will enjoy the tournament of the Basque Country of ax wielders tomorrow morning from twelve o’clock (ETB-1). Iker Vicente from Otsagabia will be the main favorite to win the title for the third time and Hodei Ezpeleta from Eibar, Julen Gabirondo from Urnia, Jokin Urretabizkaia ‘Basozabal’ from Donsoti and Andoni Iruretagoiena ‘Izeta VI’ from Ai will be his main opponents. Yesterday in Balmaseda, Julen Alberdi ‘Txikia’ (11:23), Mikel Larrañaga (12:19) and Eneko Saralegi (15:00) qualified for the November 24 Second Division axemen’s tournament.
