On the eighth matchday of the German Bundesliga, SV Werder Bremen and Bayer 04 Leverkusen drew 2-2.
The Werder team got into the game well and had their first chance through Ducksch in the first minute. The hosts then pressed early in a fairly lively opening phase. Bayer Leverkusen is not yet bringing its dominance onto the pitch.
Even after that, Bremen has the better options: After a strong pass from Weiser, Ducksch is alone in front of Hradecky, but he lobs the ball into the keeper’s hands.
And the Werder striker also has the third clear chance of this game. Ducksch shoots from the left corner of the box towards the far corner, but Hradecky can still parry (19′).
Boniface ice cold
However, contrary to the course of the game, Bayer Leverkusen scored. Boniface puts the guests in the lead after a Frimpong-Stangl pass (30th).
But even after that, SVW didn’t back down and had the next chance through Weiser (38th) before Grüll also finished. Nevertheless, the “Werkself” went into the break with a lead.
Leverkusen started better in the second half. Boniface made it 2-0 ten minutes after the break, but Zetterer made a strong save. As a result, Alonso’s team has the game under control.
Only on the seventh attempt
Within two minutes, Ducksch scored two good shots again (67th and 69th).
The Werder attacker’s seventh shot ends up in the goal. Malatini brings the second ball up to Ducksch, who heads it strongly into the top right corner (74′).
But the tie only lasts four minutes. Agu tries to clear a twice-deflected cross from Andrich, but hits it into his own goal (78./ET).
Schmid saves shortly before the end
But Bremen didn’t give up and took more and more risks in the final phase – and that was rewarded.
ÖFB legionnaire Romano Schmid welds the ball under the crossbar (90th). The shot comes relatively centrally, but also with a lot of force. In a really exciting final phase, neither team can score the decisive goal.
In the table, Bremen falls to ninth place with twelve points, while Bayer Leverkusen jumps to third place.
ÖFB legionnaires in action:
Marco Grüll (Werder Bremen): until the 82nd minute
Marco Friedl (Werder Bremen): 90 minutes
Romano Schmid (Werder Bremen): 90 minutes, goal
