Historic Red Card: Cruzeiro Striker Sent Off After Just 4 Seconds in Athletico-PR Match

Striker Rafa Silva was sent off four seconds into the game in the match between Athletico-PR and Cruzeiro, this Saturday (26), in the 31st round of Series A of the Brazilian Championship, at Arena da Baixada, in Curitiba. The number 8 elbowed defender Kaique Rocha and received a red card from referee Rodrigo José Pereira Lima.

Shortly after the start of the match, the center forward fouled the opponent in a move outside the ball dispute. Rafa Silva’s infraction was carried out after four seconds, but was subsequently concluded by the referee. This is one of the quickest expulsions in the history of Brazilian football.

Rafa Silva’s move surpassed the expulsion of Zé Carlos, for Cruzeiro, in a derby against Atlético, in 2009. On that occasion, the attacker committed a foul on midfielder Renan at seven seconds and led to the red card twelve seconds into the first half.

Rafa Silva hadn’t taken the field for Raposa for four months. The player suffered thigh and knee injuries. Recovered, he was selected by Fernando Diniz in the duel in the capital of Paraná.
