Slavia coach: The defense fell apart. Opora threw up, he was pulling down another hitter

Bilbao (from our correspondent) – He planned to use the stopper duo of Tomáš Holeš and David Zima against Athletic. But the first one did not recover from a sudden intestinal virus. The second started, but in the end he messed with his feet.

“Our defense fell apart,” recounted Trpišovský after the narrow loss.

Can you describe how difficult it was to assemble the defense?

Tomáš Holeš dropped out the evening before the match due to vomiting and intestinal problems. It also happened to David Zim in the morning after waking up. I have to thank him for how he handled the match. He still had stomach problems at eleven in the morning, we still had the morning preparation without him. We consulted with the doctor, and Zimič got better. The final decision was made around four to five in the afternoon. He said he was going to go for it, but by the 80th minute he had had enough. Kudos also to Honza Bořil, who provisionally played stopper in a four-man defence.

Do you have any idea if Marodi will be fit for Sunday’s league with Dukla?

I think it will work. Holy was already sitting behind the substitutes during the match. His improvement was rapid. I told him to dress up as a substitute, so that we have the option of sending him into the game for the last ten minutes. Similar nausea usually lasts for two or three days. We’ll see what it does to Zimich. The body received a charge during the match.

Originally he was not supposed to play, in the end he was left with an unusual role. I was a little afraid of it, admits Jan BořilVideo: Sport.cz

He won’t be in the league, of course (distanced) Oscar. We will decide on the lineup on Saturday. We were on the ball a lot against Bilbao. It wasn’t as demanding a running match as in Jablonec. The first data also show this. Against Athletic, it was demanding in terms of speed, decision-making and dynamism. In Jablonec, I had the feeling that the players were worse off. We wouldn’t want to make so many changes. The inclusion of boys who went into the match today as substitutes is offered.

What impressions will you take away from the match in Bilbao?

It will be a mixture of feelings. Very disappointed with the result. Sad that we don’t have a point or a goal. However, with the passage of time, the pride of what the team demonstrated on the field will probably prevail. Congratulations to the opponent, that’s how football is. But I dare to say that we had a tough match played to win it. We should have at least tied it.

You have created enough shots, will you blame the players for the finish?

Their goalkeeper was excellent, he made at least two world-class saves. I’m not in the habit of regretting missed chances. I would only blame if the player chooses some bad solution for the team. I’ll give credit to the defensive side, we did a great team performance at the back. We got a goal from our car with a point shot. We didn’t let the opponent into anything from the game. Only at the end did they once get past our defense. Iňaki Williams made a loop at the goalkeeper, but Oscar was able to come back with a thirty-meter sprint to keep the goal from falling into an empty net. This was significant for the match.

What about the conceded goal after your car? Did the throw-in Diouf spoil it?

I haven’t talked to the guys about it yet. There are some mechanisms. It depends on where the car is located. They didn’t get along with their teammate, we wanted to throw the cars into the open space and pass each other. But it’s football. In some phases we make good decisions, but here we gave the ball to the opponent, which resulted in a goal. Some things won’t work out.

Let’s mention one more name. Did Simion Michez ask himself to start regularly in the starting lineup?

I am very satisfied with him, he managed two tough matches away from home. With a new player, you think more about when you put him in the lineup. You want others to help him. The start for new guys is often difficult. He was a bit thrown into the water, but he prepared conscientiously. It was the biggest match of his career so far. He shot very well a few times. He is perceptive and intelligent on the field. Sometimes you can see a little lack of cooperation with others, because they are not quite used to each other yet. For example, they did not agree with Mojma Chytil around the 30th minute and it was a loss. Overall, Michez helped us a lot.
