A controversial decision against the Minnesota Vikings in the game against the Los Angeles Rams (20:30) could now lead to a rule change. This will be discussed in the offseason.
With a safety late in the fourth quarter, pass rusher Byron Young put the lid on the Minnesota Vikings and sealed the 30-20 victory for his Los Angeles Rams.
The problem: The youngster pulled violently on Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold‘s face mask.
The referees overlooked this foul play. Instead of a new first down for the Vikings and a 15-yard penalty against the Rams, Los Angeles celebrated the sack in the end zone.
Face Mask against Darnold could lead to rule change
A move that could have longer-term consequences: As “Pro Football Talk” reports, the “Competition Committee” is likely to discuss in the offseason whether face mask penalties can be reviewed by video referees.
“Pro Football Talk” refers to a conversation with the chairman of communications in the NFL, Brian McCarthy.
“Every year there is a discussion about which plays should be reviewed with the video referee and which should not. Teams could propose a rule change here. Regarding the face mask penalties, I think that could be an issue,” McCarthy is quoted as saying.
