„If you can make it there, you can make it everywhere“: Irgendwann musste Donald Trump als selbst ernannter „GOAT“ im Madison Square Garden landen.

New York sports fans are in a jubilant mood. The New York Liberty basketball players, who had won the title, paraded through Lower Manhattan in a shower of confetti. And the Yankees, the nation’s most decorated team from the Bronx, are currently competing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, originally from Brooklyn, in the so-called World Series for the trophy in the baseball finals. That’s how immodest things are in “God’s own country” and its metropolis.

“If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere”: This is what Frank Sinatra, incidentally an all-time favorite of a certain Donald Trump, once sang in “New York, New York”. The verse applies to the Met, the Metropolitan Museum, the Moma – and of course to Madison Square Garden. New Yorkers call the sports and concert arena in the heart of Manhattan, a circular building in the middle of the skyscraper canyons, the “Garden” for short.

All the greats of show biz and sport have appeared here. And of course the “GOAT”, the “Greatest of all Time”, in the epic boxing duels of the 1970s: Muhammad Ali. Trump styles himself as the white answer to Ali. It goes without saying that the self-proclaimed “GOAT” – in German: billy goat – of US politics wanted to join the gallery in his hometown as a MAGA gladiator and at some point ended up in the Garden. With the Trump show, he ticked off an item on his bucket list. Even if it’s just as a billy goat who plows the garden and chops everything down.
