Odisha’s para-badminton duo Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Dileswar Rao brought pride to their state by clinching bronze medal at the prestigious Japan Para Badminton International 2024 held in Tokyo from October 22-27
In the doubles semifinal, Bisoyee and Rao faced a challenging match against fellow Indian pair Sukant Kadam and Dinesh Rajaiah, ultimately conceding with scores of 16-21, 13-21. Despite the loss, their performance earned them a well-deserved bronze medal.
Throughout the tournament, the Odisha duo showcased their higher skills and tenacity. In the first round of group matches, they defeated Spain’s Daniel Garcia and Dhruv Solanki with an impressive 21-04, 21-10. In their second group match, they overcame the team of Joytu Dhar from Bangladesh and Mantu Kumar from India, winning 21-19, 21-11, and securing their place in the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Bisoyee and Rao continued their winning streak, defeating India’s Indrajit Pal and Hemant Thakur with scores of 21-16, 21-13, advancing to the semifinals.
Their bronze win marks a significant achievement for Odisha in international para-badminton and reflects the growing prominence of para-athletes from the region.
