Today, Sunday, the Iraqi junior tennis football team won the World Championship title in the game, which concluded its activities in the Romanian city of Bucharest, with the participation of (24) teams from various continents of the world.
The head of the game federation, Safaa Sahib, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The junior team won the championship title and the golden medal after defeating the Danish team in the final match by two games to nothing,” explaining that “what was achieved is a completely unprecedented achievement.” It is the first of its kind, and the first participation of Iraq in the world championships at the junior national team level.”
Sahib added, “The junior team beat the teams of Canada, Moldova, and Denmark in the group stage, then beat the Cyprus team in the quarter-finals, and qualified for the final match after defeating the Hungarian team in the semi-finals.”
The head of the game federation continued, “Iraq won two other silver medals in the same tournament, as it won the silver medal in the youth mixed event, and also won the silver medal in the advanced mixed event, while the juniors also won the bronze medal in the mixed event competitions.”
