The Rot-Weiss Essen supporters are attacked on the way to the third division game at Hansa Rostock. The federal police are investigating. One day later, FC Hansa reacted as it has so often in the past.
Third division soccer team Hansa Rostock has condemned the attack on a special train carrying Rot-Weiss Essen fans. The Essen supporters were on their way to their team’s league game in Rostock on Saturday. The train was brought to a stop in Brandenburg and, according to the police, was attacked by a masked group of perpetrators.
“Our club strongly condemns the attack on the special train and expressly distances itself from any form of violence,” said a statement published on the Hansa website one day after the Baltic Sea Club’s 4-0 win against Essen. In the past, Hansa fans have made negative headlines several times.
The FCH club management affirmed: “Anyone who condones the danger to other people is clearly and clearly crossing boundaries. Such behavior must and will have corresponding consequences for the identified perpetrators.”
A suspect is being investigated
The police did not initially confirm whether the attackers were FC Hansa fans. On Saturday evening, the Rostock police station announced that a 20-year-old German suspect from the northwest Mecklenburg district had been identified. He is suspected of being involved in the attack. According to police, the suspect’s apartment was searched.
After the incident, FC Hansa said it organized a shuttle service to the Ostseestadion for the Essen fans who were able to continue their journey to Rostock late with a replacement train. The club got the DFB to get the game started half an hour later.
According to authorities, incidents occurred again when around 2,000 RWE supporters left after the game. Hansa supporters tried to disrupt the departure of opposing fans at the main train station in Rostock.
