Max Verstappen had a disappointing Friday in Mexico. In the first and second free practice he suffered from engine problems, which meant he could not make much distance. Red Bull intervened prior to the third free practice to solve the problem.
Verstappen ended the first free practice in Mexico with engine problems. It seemed that these problems would be a thing of the past in the second training, but nothing could be further from the truth. Verstappen only drove a few laps, because the engine problems reappeared with every run. The Dutchman could not complete the training and Red Bull started looking for a solution.
The Austrian racing team has now intervened. Verstappen drives today with a different Power Unit than the one he drove yesterday. Red Bull has taken another engine from the pool, so that means that Verstappen will not receive a grid penalty. The FIA documents also show that Red Bull has broken the curve. Helmut Marko previously indicated that they were not afraid of this. Red Bull found a leak in the turbo inlet yesterday, and it could not be resolved in time. It is expected that Verstappen will not encounter these problems today. Red Bull and Verstappen hope to be able to make up for lost time in the third free practice.
