The Bavarian, who was born in Hof in 1944, steered the fortunes of the tennis association with the largest number of members in the world from 1999 to 2011 and was elected honorary president by the umbrella association’s general meeting in 2015 and ombudsman of the DTB in 2021 and 2023.

His opinion carries weight and his advice is always well-founded and helpful.”
Von Waldenfels initially studied law in Munich and Würzburg. From 1974 to 1996 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament, from 1978 to 1995 he was a member of the Bavarian State Government, most recently as State Minister for Finance. From 1996 to 2001 he was a member of the board of Munich-based VIAG AG. From 2003 to the end of 2012, von Waldenfels was represented on the supervisory board of E.ON AG. In addition to his work as a lawyer at the international law firm Clifford Chance, he heads the board of trustees of the Friedrich Baur Foundation and holds shareholder rights at Baur Versand (Friedrich-Baur-GmbH).
Dr. Georg von Waldenfels worked on a voluntary basis in sport for many years: from 1983 to 2000 as President of the Bavarian Tennis Association, from 1999 to 2011 as President of the DTB and in numerous international committees such as a member of the Board of Directors and chairman of the Fed Cup Committee the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
For his services, von Waldenfels received the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1983 and the Federal Cross of Merit in 1986. He has been an honorary citizen of the city of Hof since October 2000.
