Darts sensation! No Name Edhouse is crowned European champion

The darts world has a new European champion!

Ritchie Edhouse secures the trophy at the European Championship in Dortmund. With more than 30,000 spectators, the tournament is the most attended in PDC history after the World Cup and the Premier League.

In the final, the 41-year-old Englishman won 11:3 against the Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena. It is the fitting end to a European Championship that was full of surprises.

Favorites die in the first four rounds

Because all favorites had to say goodbye before the semi-finals.

Gerwyn Price, Luke Littler and defending champion Peter Wright are eliminated in round one. Michael van Gerwen is finished in round two. Gary Anderson says goodbye in the round of 16. For world champion Luke Humphries, the tournament ends in the quarter-finals – against Wattimena, by the way.

This leads to the strange and surprising finale between the world number 39. and the world number 40, which ended extremely emotionally for the new European champion Edhouse.

After more than seven years of being a darts professional, the Englishman won a major title for the first time. His career highlight so far was the fourth round of the UK Open; Edhouse was known as a gray mouse in darts until he won the title.

With the European Championship victory, Edhouse jumps up ten places in the world rankings and is now in 29th place.
