A difficult edition of his home race is planned for Sergio Pérez. The Mexican blundered during qualifying and was unable to get further than P18. ‘Checo’ pointed to the RB20‘s braking problems, which have been bothering him for three races. However, according to Helmut Marko it is a new problem, he has not received complaints from Pérez about the brakes before.
Although the RB20 is not the fastest car in Mexico, the eighteenth place achieved is dramatic for ‘Checo’. After qualifying, Pérez mainly pointed to the brakes, which he was having difficulty with. For example, he had difficulty stopping the RB20 and, in his own words, he put too much energy into the tires, which then overheated. The circuit in Mexico should still offer options for the race with the long straight stretch, but Pérez was not optimistic about that either.

Marko had not known about brake problems before
Not only Pérez had complaints about the brakes, teammate Max Verstappen managed to put himself on the front row of the grid, but he also pointed out the braking problems. Verstappen eventually managed to set the second fastest time, ahead of title rival Lando Norris. Afterwards and in front of the camera Fox Sports Mexico Marko is confronted with Pérez’s complaints. “We have to look at the problem. Sergio complained about brake problems and we have to find out the cause,” Marko is looking for answers. According to Pérez, this braking problem was already present from the race in Singapore, but that is not the case with Marko: “This is the first time in the last three races that I have heard something about it.”
