The Los Angeles Dodgers traveled to New York with a 2-0 lead in the World Series against the Yankees, putting them halfway to the Major League Baseball championship. Historically, 82% of the teams that have taken this lead in the Fall Classic have ended up winning.

Despite the good moment, the team faces a concern: the shoulder injury of its Japanese star, Shohei Ohtani. “Let’s hope Ohtani is fine and it’s nothing serious. But if he can’t play on Monday, we have to move on,” said outfielder Teoscar Hernández.

In the last meeting, the Dodgers beat the Yankees 4-2, marking the first time since 1988 that they have taken such a lead in the World Series. Teoscar Hernández has been key, hitting three hits in eight at-bats, including a two-run home run.

“We have to keep pushing and working,” added Hernández. “We don’t want to lose momentum or have them take it. We have to continue battling at bat, trying to get on base for the teammate behind us.”

Success has also been seen in starting pitching. Jack Flaherty and Yoshinobu Yamamoto shined in the first two games, limiting the Yankees’ offense. Now, the team is relying on Walker Buehler for Game 3 at Yankee Stadium. “If I had to choose who to go compete with, it would be Walker Buehler,” said Max Muncy.

For the Yankees, the situation is challenging. It’s the first time they’ve been down 0-2 in a World Series since 2001. Their best hitter, Aaron Judge, has struggled, with just one hit in nine at-bats and six strikeouts against the Dodgers. “I have to hunker down and do the job, and I’m not doing it right now,” Judge admitted.

Manager Aaron Boone remains optimistic. “No one said this would be easy. Now we have to extend the series. We’re not going to be scared. We just have to keep trying.”

The Yankees have overcome similar deficits in the past, such as in 1996 when they beat the Atlanta Braves after being down. If they want to repeat the feat, they will have to take better advantage of their offensive opportunities and stop the Dodgers’ momentum.
