(Reuters) – Men’s tennis player Carlos Alcaraz said on the 28th that the reason he participated in this month’s Six Kings Slam exhibition match in Saudi Arabia was because of the record-breaking prize money.

The Six Kings Slam has an unprecedented prize money estimated at approximately $6 million (approximately 920 million yen), and runner-up Alcaraz also won $1.5 million over the four-day tournament. Winner Yannick Sinner (Italy) emphasized that he took part not for the huge paycheck but for the sporting challenge, but Alcaraz admitted that the financial aspect was a big factor.

“I love tennis and most of the time I don’t think about money, but I have to be realistic and I have to think about how I want to earn money, that’s all,” Alcaraz said. “The prize money in Saudi Arabia is the highest ever, so it was a good motivation, at least for me.”
