(pm). In the top game of the Badminton Bundesliga, SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil had the upper hand against 1. BC Wipperfeld; like in April in the final of the German championship. The team from the Bad Vilbeler board won 5:2.

The almost 200 spectators in the sports hall of the European School saw a game at a top European level. The two doubles with Julie Macpherson and Yvonne Li as well as with Christo Popov and Alexander Dunn lasted 75 minutes and went over five sets; with the better ending for the hosts.

In the following first men’s doubles, Mads Vestergaard and Daniel Lundgaard had to lose the first two sets, but were able to improve and win the following three rounds. In the second men’s singles, Matthias Kicklitz, who had moved to Dortelweil for the season, had problems at the start and surprisingly lost the first set. However, he was then able to win the next three sets, which meant that the victory for Dortelweiler was already in the clear before the next three games.

In the women’s singles, Yvonne Li had to retire without a fight due to a foot injury, which meant that Wipperfeld reduced the lead to 1:4. Christo Popov swept his opponent in his singles and won in three sets. The final mixed match had to decide whether the Dortelweiler team would leave the field as winners with two or three points. This match also went the full distance. Mads Vestergaard and Julie Macpherson had to admit defeat.

After almost three hours of play, the Dortelweilers were able to gain two very important points against Wipperfeld

»It was the expected top game with some outstanding performances and a great atmosphere from our spectators who, like in the final, carried us to victory. With the victory we were able to show that we had rightly won the final in April,” says team leader Klaus Rotter.

The SV Fun Ball continues on November 8th with the game at Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim.
