Women’s Switzerland-France (2-1): Les Bleues surprised, first defeat for Laurent Bonadei

Second outing for Laurent Bonadei and first defeat for the new coach of the French women’s team. Few conclusions to draw from this setback conceded in Switzerland (2-1), in Geneva, this Tuesday evening in a friendly match and with a largely reshuffled team. But it still sounds like a slight reminder, a few months before Euro 2025 organized… in Switzerland.

Especially since this is the first defeat for Les Bleues against this opponent since 8 confrontations and a friendly lost in August 2002. The construction of the new version of the French team still promises to be a long time.

For the Swiss, it was a real test before the continental competition and they passed it quite well. Aggressive, technically fairer even when giving possession to the Tricolores, they benefited from a helping hand to open the scoring on a penalty, thanks to the emblematic Ramona Bachmann (25th). Without a slew of executives (De Almeida, Mbock, Katoto, Karchaoui, Bacha, Le Sommer, Diani, Geyoro), the Blues reacted thanks to new faces (Gago, Caputo, Bogaert).

Faulty on the penalty awarded to Switzerland, Kelly Gago made up for it by equalizing ten minutes later, her first goal for the French team, at 25 years old and only two caps. Coming into play twenty minutes last Friday against Jamaica (3-0), the Cristolienne by birth takes from the left a ball deflected into the area by Cindy Caputo, her ex-teammate at AS Saint-Étienne (35th).

The skylight for Naomi Luyet

By making four changes at the break (entries from Geyoro, Diani, Le Mouël, Samoura), Laurent Bonadei wanted to create another dynamic upon returning from the locker room in order to regain control. But the surprising Swiss women continued to believe in it and to be effective. On the other hand, the nugget Naomi Luyet, 18 years old (Young Boys Berne), sends a magnificent curling shot into the top corner of Constance Picaud (54th) for the second goal of the Nati.

Still on the counter, Switzerland could have scored a third goal without an almost miraculous save from Picaud on a blocked strike from Alisha Lehmann (68th). France pushed to equalize at the end of the match, notably from a corner. Jade Le Guilly missed the target from close range (83rd). Without success, therefore.

Next meeting in a month for Laurent Bonadei’s Bleues with, in particular, a big meeting, still in a friendly, against world champion Spain on the pitch of the Allianz-Riviera in Nice (December 3). On December 16, the draw for the group stage of Euro 2025 will also be held, a competition for which France brilliantly qualified.

The Blue eleven this Tuesday evening against Switzerland

Picaud – Le Guilly, Renard (cap.) (Samoura, 46e), Lakrar, Bogaert – Jean-François (Le Mouël, 46e), Dali, Caputo (Geyoro, 46e) – D. Cascarino (Becho, 65e), Gago ( Diani, 46e), Dufour (Baltimore, 82e). Enter. : Bonadei.
