After a goalless first half in the league cup meeting between Sporting and Nacional, Viktor Gyökeres was substituted for the second act.
And he did as so many times before. Namely goals.
In the 65th minute, Sporting was awarded a penalty and the managed successful Swede. It meant 2-0 to Sporting because Morten Hjulmand found the right card after the break.
Nacional redcued shortly thereafter. That prompted Gyökeres to respond. The Swede made it 3-1 in the 71st minute and his second goal in the match. That time he thundered in a free kick.
The match ended 3-1 and Sporting is ready for the semi-finals.
Amorim’s imminent departure has also fueled speculation about Gyökere’s stay or non-stay at Sporting. According to Sky, the 26-year-old can be bought off for a “sale price” of 60-70 million euros (670-805 million kroner) this summer. Previously, Sporting demanded that the buyout clause be activated and it is 100 million euros, over one billion Swedish kronor.
With the goals against Nacional, Gyökeres is up to 16 goals in 15 competitive matches in his club team.
