Czech hockey forward Ondřej Palát helped New Jersey win 6:2 over Anaheim with the second point of the NHL season. The Devils broke a four-game losing streak with a big win, Palát scored a point for assisting on the last goal.
The hockey players of New Jersey entered the duel against Anaheim from the position of the third team of the Eastern Conference, but at the same time they had a long streak of four games without a win. Against Anaheim, they ended it decisively.
The visiting Ducks took the lead early on after a goal by Brock McGinn, but the second period completely changed the course. The Devils scored four goals in it and bounced back to a blockbuster that they didn’t let go.
They added two more hits in the final twenty minutes and won 6:2. Erik Haula put the final form of the result after Palát’s second pass of the year. Ducks captain Radko Gudas played over 18 minutes and recorded two negative points in the plus/minus statistic. Anaheim goalkeeper Lukáš Dostál remained on the bench.
New Jersey set up a three-game road trip with the win. “It’s nice to win at home, before a series of games on the opponents’ ice, today’s win is also very important. I’m glad we did it,” said Dawson Mercer, who contributed two assists to the victory.
Edmonton turned the game around in Detroit, winning for the fourth time this season thanks to Leon Draisaitl’s goal 18 seconds into overtime. The German striker scored two goals and an assist in the victory and was named the first star of the game. Connor McDavid scored two assists and defender Evan Bouchard flashed with a 1+1 record.
“It’s easier to win games when the team’s best players play like the team’s best players,” Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said.
Montreal scored three goals in the second period to win 4:3 on the ice of Philadelphia. The Canadiens won for the second time in a row and moved into ninth place in the Eastern Conference. The narrow victory was led by Brendan Gallagher and Nick Suzuki, who finished the match with a 1+1 record. Travis Sanheim shone on the losing side with three points for two goals and an assist.
The fans in Denver saw a crazy third period. Home team Colorado entered it with a 2-0 lead, but conceded four times in eleven minutes and secured a 5-4 victory. Avalanche forward Casey Mittelstadt had three steals.
