Dodgers miss first match point

The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered their first defeat in the World Series and lost their first match point in their duel with the New York Yankees. After a 4:11 defeat by the record champions, the Californians lead 3:1 in the best-of-seven series, and the next chance to win the title in Major League Baseball (MLB) will come again on Thursday night in New York.

The Yankees prevented the sweep thanks, among other things, to Anthony Volpe, who hit a grand slam – a home run with all bases occupied. As a result, the 27-time champion turned 1-2 into 5-2 in the third inning, with Gleyber Torres and Austin Wells later adding home runs.

“This win blew me away. This has never happened to me before. It was great,” said Volpe. Torres is already looking ahead: “We have shown what we are capable of as a team,” said the Venezuelan: “Tomorrow it will continue as if there were no tomorrow.”

The task remains difficult; no team has ever gone 0-3 in the MLB finals. LA is fighting for its first title since 2020 and eighth overall; the Yankees were last champions in 2009.

The team from the Big Apple had lost the 1976 World Series to Cincinnati 4-0, and at least the club was spared a repeat of this disgrace.
