Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola reacted to the results of the 2024 Ballon d’Or. On Monday evening, City midfielder Rodri became the best football player on the planet.
“I think Spanish football has done incredible things in the last decade, with different coaches, incredible players in the past, winning the World Cup, the European Championship, and never, ever winning this award. And I think Rodri perfectly represents, of course, City, but also Spanish football – their influence in world football over the last 10-15 years.
I remember three players from the Barcelona academy who were nominated for the Ballon d’Or, but Xavi and Iniesta couldn’t win because there was a monster. Cristiano was a monster, and the father of the monster is Messi. And both have done something incredible over the past 15-20 years. And perhaps at that moment Xavi and Iniesta also deserved the Ballon d’Or. Therefore, I think that yesterday Rodri received what Spanish football throughout the world deserved,” Pep told the City website.
