What if the Washington Wizards were the most French-speaking team in the NBA? The club from the American capital has just extended French fullback Bilal Coulibaly until 2026. With the signing this summer of Alexandre Sarr, number 2 in the draft, the Eastern Conference franchise offers itself a very French future.
Despite their absence in the playoffs since 2021, the Wizards still want to rely on a young guard led by Coulibaly, selected in 7th position in the 2023 draft. The guard was picked up by the Indiana Pacers then sold to Washington where he signed a four-year contract, two of which are optional.
A promising start to the season
Washington has therefore just validated the third year of the 20-year-old’s contract, after a convincing first season and a start to the second beyond expectations.
After averaging 8.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, Bilal Coulibaly displays even more interesting statistics over the first three games of the 2024/2025 vintage (16.0 points and 4.7 rebounds on average) with a career record (23 points) against Cleveland, in a squad where he still took on responsibilities. Nothing better after a successful summer with the Blues and his title of Olympic vice-champion.
