Fireworks, smoke bombs… The spectacular pre-match for River Plate supporters in the Copa Libertadores

To cause the Professional Football League (LFP) to fail. On the occasion of their team’s semi-final second leg against Brazilians Atletico Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores, River Plate supporters once again literally set their stadium on fire with an incredible pyrotechnic show.

Los Millonarios had heavily lost the first leg (3-0) and hoped to be able to achieve the feat and reverse the situation in order to reach the eighth final in their history in the competition (won 4).

But the thousands of flares and smoke bombs lit in the stands did not sufficiently transcend the players who were unable to do better than a draw on the lawn of the Monumental stadium (0-0). Despite a clear domination of Marcelo Gallardo’s men, who notably shot 35 times without finding the fault, River Plate was eliminated at the gates of the final.

Qualified in both confrontations, the Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro, led by Brazilian striker Hulk, should therefore have to face Botafogo in the final of the Copa Libertadores, on November 30.

Opposed to the Uruguayans of Peñarol in the other semi-final, the club led by John Textor largely won the first round on its lawn (5-0) and must now travel to Montevideo for the return match on the night of Wednesday at Thursday (1:30 a.m.).
