Alina Wolf from TSV Munkbrarup played her first senior doubles tournament in Schleswig alongside her coach Veronika Bartelsen. A strong second place was achieved straight away.
Schleswig – The 17th Open City Championship for adults in badminton doubles took place in Schleswig on the last weekend in October. This tournament will be held in three divisions (A, B and C). Alina Wolf from TSV Munkbrarup played for the first time in the adult division and then as the youngest player in the tournament in the top division A (association and state league).
Playing in the women’s doubles alongside her coach Veronika Bartelsen motivated Alina very much. First, both had to play in one of two groups of four, in which the two best later qualified for the semi-finals. In their group they lost the first game, but won the next two games in two sets each. So we went to the semi-finals as second in the group against the first placed team in the other group.
Semi-final victory against the tournament favorites
It was clear to everyone that this game would not be easy, because it was against Leonie Page and Senikka Reese, who were number one. This game was exciting from the first rally, and a “little sensation” emerged after Alina and Veronika won the first set. But in the second set, Leonie and Senikka were able to live up to their role as favorites, played very clever tactics and equalized after sets. Now the third set had to bring the decision.
