RADARINDRAMAYU.ID – The Indonesian national team is in the spotlight again, this time from the Vietnamese media who question PSSI’s target in the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
Vietnamese media criticized PSSI’s decision not to determine a champion target for the Indonesian National Team in the tournament.
This criticism emerged after a statement by Arya Sinulingga, a member of the PSSI Exco, who stated that his party had not set a specific target for Shin Tae-yong’s team in the regional event.
Arya expressed this at the Garuda ID press conference on Thursday (24/10/2024), which was then responded negatively by the Vietnamese media.

“There is no target yet, we have not been notified,” said Arya at the press conference. This statement provoked reactions from a number of Vietnamese media, who considered that PSSI was considered hesitant in determining the champion target for the Indonesian National Team in the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
They think that Indonesia lacks confidence, especially if it is not strengthened by naturalized players who previously played for the Indonesian national team in previous matches.
According to their report, the Indonesian National Team without naturalized players is considered not a serious threat to opponents, and is even claimed to be easier to beat by other teams in the Southeast Asia region.
One of the news headlines published by Soha.vn on Friday (25/10/2024) wrote, “Indonesia does not dare to target winning the 2024 AFF Cup.”

They also continued with the statement, “The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) has not set a specific target for Shin Tae-yong and the Indonesian National Team in the 2024 AFF Cup.”
Vietnamese media believes that PSSI tends to be careful in targeting the title, especially because the Indonesian national team may not be strengthened by 13 naturalized players like in previous matches.
