Ainhoa Gil Lucas, a 28-year-old athlete from Tudela, is about to face her second marathon, this time as the Spanish flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the New York Marathon, an event that will be televised by ABC News. With her sights set on completing the six majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York), Ainhoa aspires to become the youngest Spanish woman to achieve this feat and one of the youngest internationally.
The majors are the six most prestigious and recognized marathons worldwide. These races are held in these cities in Japan, Germany and the United States, and completing all of them is considered an exceptional achievement in the world of running. To date, only 7,123 people have managed to complete the six majors, of which 479 are Spanish (54 women and 425 men). The average age to achieve it is 50 years, and the average completion time exceeds 4 hours.
On November 3, Ainhoa will participate in the New York Marathon, supported by Ensure Nutrivigor, a product of Abbott, the major official sponsor of the six majors. This collaboration will allow you to access crucial resources and support in an event that will feature more than 50,000 runners from around the world. His goal in this marathon is to achieve a time under 3:45:00, which would open the door to another major.
Ainhoa’s dream began in 2022, when he ran the Berlin Marathon, thus achieving his first major. This experience was not only a personal achievement, but also a way to collaborate with the British NGO “Get Kids Going”, which supports boys and girls with disabilities, giving them the opportunity to participate in sports activities and develop their skills. Thanks to his trademark, he obtained the number to run in Chicago the next year.
In his participation in Chicago, Ainhoa will wear the logo of the Autism Association of Navarra on his t-shirt, to give them the visibility they deserve. This association plays a fundamental role in the lives of many families, offering support and resources to affected people and their loved ones.
Running a major also involves an economic effort, but thanks to the support of Bar Nenaf, Convivium and Eva III de Tudela, these expenses will be more bearable.
“Dreams are meant to be fulfilled and challenges are meant to be faced,” says Ainhoa. Let’s wish her luck on her adventure as Tudela’s ambassador through the streets of half the world!
