The German Judo Championships took place in Stuttgart last weekend. Nicolas Kunze from MTSV Aerzen won in the class up to 66kg. With this, Kunze has fulfilled a big dream and reached an important milestone in his sports career. He has also consolidated his position in the A squad of men’s national athletes.
After two confident performances in the main round against Felix Bächle from Heidelberg and Robin Angerer from TSG Backnang, it was almost over in the quarterfinals against Johann Vogt from Potsdam after a minute of fighting time, because the Aerzener fell behind due to carelessness. Kunze then risked significantly more, so that his opponent could only defend, which led to several punishments and enabled Kunze to reach the semi-finals.
In the final against Lino Andrea Dello Russo from SSF Bonn the decision was again made in extra time. Here Kunze showed a beautiful throwing technique, which was rewarded with a full point “Ippon” and the German championship.
It was Nicolas Kunze’s second major success in October 2024. Previously, Nicolas and his brother Sebastian Kunze, also a first-class judo ace, achieved the German championship title in the Judo Bundesliga as part of Remscheider TV.
