Successful weekend for the JJV Friedrichshafen

On Sunday, October 20th, the Baden-Württemberg Kata Championship took place in Kirchheim Teck. This is traditionally held around the end of October every year.

This year the Judo Ju-Jutsu Association Friedrichshafen competed with two pairs of kata. Claudia Henzler and Andreas Lieber started in the Katame-No Kata, Jessica Hillebrand and Jens Breitenbach competed in the Nage-No Kata.

Kata is a form of judo in which certain principles and techniques are demonstrated in a fixed and prescribed manner.

In Katame-no-Kata, Tori (= the defender) applies holds, chokes and levers from which Uke (= the attacker) tries to free himself. Tori has to react to these attempts to free himself and enforce his technique.

Claudia Henzler and Andreas Lieber prevailed against all other participants in this kata group. They were able to surpass their success from last year and win gold. With first place they confidently qualified for the German Kata Championships. This will take place in Dresden in June.

In the Nage-No Kata, in which Jessica Hillebrand and Jens Breitenbach competed, three defined throwing techniques are demonstrated in five groups.

In the first round, Jessica and Jens were among the top three couples in their group. This meant that they qualified for the final round of the best six starter pairs. In the final round they showed a flawless kata. In the end, little things decided the top three places. Jessica Hillebrand and Jens Breitenbach secured the bronze medal, 13 points behind first place.

For Jessica and Jens, this not only means qualifying for the German Kata Championships but also passing the first part of the 1st Dan exam (Dan = black belt).

However, since the kata has to be demonstrated as a tori, Jessica showed the Nage-No kata with her uke Safija Jauß after the competition.

The Judo Ju-Jutsu Association Friedrichshafen congratulates all participants on the excellent result.

Beginners training takes place every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Bodensee sports hall for children aged six and over. All other judo enthusiasts are welcome every Monday and Wednesday from 7 p.m.
