NAC Breda was eliminated in the first round of the KNVB Cup by the amateurs of BVV Barendrecht. NAC made up for an early deficit at De Bongerd sports park, but Barendrecht still won 2-1 in injury time.

NAC, which was promoted last season, is seventh in the Premier League, but had a tough evening visiting the number six of the second division. Already in the eighth minute, Barendrecht took the lead through Wouter Vermeer.

Given the look of the game, the lead could hardly be called undeserved. Both teams had their chances, but it was only during the second half that NAC really took control of the match.

Excellent goalkeeper

Five minutes after halftime, Lars Mol equalized. NAC pressed on and had enough opportunities to thwart a stunt. It was thanks to goalkeeper Jomar Gomes that Barendrecht survived.

Deep into injury time, Brent Vugts became the big hero. He scored the decisive goal in the exciting final phase and shot Barendrecht to the second round at the expense of NAC.
