Mattia Cattaneo confirms himself as Italian champion in the men’s doubles
Around 250 athletes from every corner of Italy participated in the championships
LECCO – The Chiari Sports Center hosted four days of competition for the XXXIV Italian Junior and Under Badminton Championships. With the participation of around 250 athletes from every corner of Italy, this event represented an important opportunity to showcase the talent and passion of young athletes.
Participants competed in different age categoriesincluding U13, U15, U17 and Junior, aiming to win the prestigious national title and write a new page in the history of this exciting sport.
Mattia Cattaneopaired with Luca Li Lies (Junior BC MI), reconfirms the 2023 title in the DMU13. The two present themselves as seeded n. 1 in the scoreboard, thanks to the victories obtained in the various tournaments this year. Mattia and Luca reach the final without losing a set and face the South Tyroleans Pichler/Renner di Malleswinning with a clear 21-14, 21-9.
Mattia also gets a silver and a bronze. In the XDU13 specialty, paired with Lea Gitterle (ASV Mals), loses the final against Li (Junior BC MI) e Falchetti (GSA Chiari) in a match that ended 18-21, 21-17, 12-21. In the SMU13 singles, he took the third step of the podium, after losing the semi-final again against Li with a score of 10-21, 13-21.
The Junior also participated in this edition Andrew Xavierwho was stopped in the round of 16 in the men’s singles by Hospitals (ASV Uberetsch) with a score of 13-21, 13-21. In the men’s doubles, paired with Raffaele Caponio (Sport Experiens Ideas), was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Danti (ASV Uberetsch) e Fellin (SSV Bozen) with a score of 6-21, 12-21.
Finally, in the mixed doubles, together with Yi Yuan Chen (Junior BC MI), was stopped in the quarterfinals by Danti (ASV Uberetsch) e Koessler (SSV Bozen) with a result of 16-21, 9-21.
